Paracord Survival Grenade

Posted on Updated on

Whenever you are spending time in the wilderness it’s a good idea to carry a survival kit. This Paracord Survival Grenade is a cool way to carry some survival basics. It is compact, lightweight, completely customizable, looks super cool, and is super easy to build.

*Note this is not a real grenade but merely a survival kit*

Materials needed:

  • 16ft paracord
  • Scissors
  • Lighter
  • Screwdriver
  • Carabiner
  • Key rings
  • Survival kit
    • Tin foil
    • Fish hook
    • Fish wieghts
    • 10ft Fishingline
    • Lighter
    • Cotton balls

Part A) Create Your Survival Kit

Step 1)

Cut 14 inches of tin foil and lay it flat on a table. Place the lighter on the edge of the foil followed by the fish hooks, weights, fishing line, and the cotton balls in front of it. You can use any items you would like in your own kit, these are just my personal favorites. Don’t forget the paracrod itself and the keyring are also tools in your kit.

Step 2)

Fold the tinfoil over the items and continue to wrap the survival items in the tin foil keeping it flat and tight.

Step 3)

Fold the sides on the kit creating a rectangular package. This becomes your survival kit.

Part B) Making the Survival Grenade

Step 1) Getting Started

Take the paracord and fold it in half. I bought my paracord at Walmart for $3.50. Hold the loop about a quarter inch from the bottom of the survival kit and wrap it along the side. Tie a knot in the paracord at the bottom of the survival kit. This will assist in holding the kit in place and from falling off of the grenade (see step 3).

Step 2) Making The Body

Place the knot at the top of the kit. To make the body of the grenade we will be doing a cobra weave. For those that aren’t sure how to do one, click here for a YouTube tutorial on the weave pattern. Keep doing the pattern until you reach the loops. Be sure to pull it tight against the sides of the kit.

Step 3) The Loop

Hold the loop against the survival kit and continue the cobra weave over top the loop. Continue to weave until you reach the bottom.

Step 4) Second Layer

Flip over your grenade and find the side that has the loop over the cord. Start on that side going back down the grenade with the cobra weave until you get back to the top of the grenade. Take one end, cut of the extra and melt it down to a blob.

Step 5) The Spoon (or handle)

Now we are going to make the “spoon” or handle to our grenade using the uncut end. Find the last loop at the bottom of the grenade. Use the screw driver to loosen the loop enough to thread the end through it. Cut off the excess and use your lighter to burn the end into a nice sized blob.

Step 6) The Pin

Finished     Now it’s time to connect a metal key ring to give it the “pin” look. It may be easiest to thread the key ring by first opening it up with a screwdriver. Then thread the loop onto the key ring. Connect your carabiner and you’re done.

There you have it, your own paracord survival grenade. For more paracord projects check out the Parcord Guild.

This only called a grenade due to paracord wrapped in shape of one. If you wish to be politically correct, use brown paracord and call it a turd.
